About Horizon Simulators

Specialist developer of simulator technologies and engineering-led flight solutions.

We are an independent engineering SME in the South Lake District, designing, testing and fabricating aviation simulator hardware and input-output interfaces.

Our work brings together concept development, mechanical and electromechanical design, physical prototyping and integration. We investigate practical problems: how controls feel, how systems fit and how hardware connects with a simulated environment.

Our core capabilities

A fixed-wing concept blending rendered surfaces and technical linework.

CAD-CAM &
Engineering Design

Digital design for physical simulation hardware, from early layouts and operating envelopes to practical assemblies.

Learn more

We use CAD and digital modelling to explore control positions, pilot reach, component clearances and available space. Design work establishes how parts fit and move before a physical prototype is built. CAM, laser cutting and conventional fabrication can support the next stage, with the technique selected for the part and its purpose.

3D Modelling &
Prototyping

Moving from digital geometry to physical trials, using printed parts and practical mock-ups to investigate fit and function.

Learn more

Printed polymers, timber layouts and metal trials each serve a different purpose. Early models help us investigate proportions and movement paths without immediately committing to expensive production parts. Findings feed back into the digital model, supporting further prototypes and more informed engineering decisions.

Mechanical & Electromechanical Development

Development of control carriers, positioning mechanisms and integrated assemblies for simulation applications.

Learn more

Our R&D investigates how mechanisms move, locate and support physical controls. We consider mechanical clearances, mounting stiffness, loads, electrical connections and servicing together. An assembly that moves successfully in isolation still needs to be assessed alongside the rest of a simulator.

Simulation Hardware & Interfaces

Physical controls and input-output interfaces that connect an operator with an existing simulated environment.

Learn more

Our contribution is the hardware and its integration: controls, supporting structures, interfaces and the relationship between physical and virtual environments. We work with established simulation platforms rather than claiming to develop their aerodynamic models. Software compatibility and the intended use are agreed for each project.

Design to prototype

A structured approach from concept to development.

Using materials and components thoughtfully, with reuse wherever practical during successive prototype trials.

Application focus

Concept illustration: Fixed Aerofoil Simulation

Fixed Aerofoil Simulation

Hardware concepts and operator interfaces for the simulation of fixed-wing aircraft, including airliners, fighters and gliders.

Explore this application

The physical layout matters: control location, reach, travel and mounting stability all influence the interaction with a simulated aircraft. We explore cockpit and component arrangements around the required application, with flight dynamics supplied by the selected simulation software.

Concept illustration: Flexible Aerofoil Simulation

Flexible Aerofoil Simulation

Hardware and interface development for flexible-wing simulation applications, including wingsuit-related concepts.

Explore this application

Fixed and flexible aerofoils present different simulation contexts. Our focus is the physical experience and supporting hardware: how a user interacts with a simulation and how those inputs connect to it. The abstract aerofoil illustration communicates that area of interest; it is not a claim that we manufacture the pictured wing or supply a validated aerodynamic model.

Concept illustration: Immersive Cockpit & Hardware Concepts

Immersive Cockpit & Hardware Concepts

Physical cockpit environments and control interfaces for research, development and simulation evaluation.

Explore this application

We investigate how real controls can remain useful within immersive virtual or mixed-reality environments. Reconfigurable hardware is an active area of research, not a completed automatic-changeover product. Requirements, software interfaces and development maturity are discussed as part of each enquiry.

The graphics on this page are illustrative engineering concepts, not photographs of completed products or validated technical drawings.
